Birdhouse bottle gourds
So incredible, they hang there like little droplets one after another after another, can't wait for them to be fully grown as I'll start the process of turning them into birdhouses. But they're really making use of the ceiling netting.

The gourds are taking over the world, well not quite but look at them go! There are even little baby 'Caveman's club', so cute yet so strange.

Raised beds and gourd frame

Early June and mass planting begins proper. Planted out all tomato plants with marigold companions, salad crops like lolla rossa, coriander, basil, spring onions etc. Planted 3 pumpkins and one butternut inside the gourd frame and my climbing gourd varieties around the edges, every side of the frame is working hard to support produce including cucumbers and flowers like sunflowers and sweetpeas.

Gourd frame

Back in February I made this frame for the many climbing varieties of gourd I ordered, including the birdhouse bottle gourd for making, well birdhouses and the luffa gourd which climbs and sets fruit, which can be dried and peeled to reveal the inner skeleton-like structure, used in bathrooms up and down the country. I covered it last weekend, Sunday 20th May, in a wide netting.
