First fire of the Autumn

We can have a fire any time of day from November onwards. I love the smell of bonfires this time of year, however, some of my fellow plot holders are burning plastic and other toxic things, which leaves a horrid pungent stench in the air. I went home with a pain in my chest and shortness of breath the other day. My fire on the other hand was just twigs and roots and woody stuff, smelt great. I have been collecting material all year for the fire and had a great huge heap of stuff to burn but I made sure that I lifted and checked for wildlife each bit I burned. As it happens a vole ran out of the pile which validates the process of checking before burning. Well done me.
